*a child who loves to learn is a bright child :)

Hello ECGC families-

I wanted to take a moment to update you on decisions made by Hannele, Melanie, Aviva and I in the past weeks. Although we secured funding, a lawyer to guide and help up with the 501c3 status and were working with VAS to rent the location, we have decided to not run the summer program THIS summer.

It was a very tough decision for us all but several circumstance effected our decision. Due to the poor economy and several of us having personal issues we are dealing with, we made the decision to work diligently over the next year to have a strong program in place for summer 2011.

As many of you may know, I was pregnant last summer and have since given birth to a beautiful baby girl named Kennedy. She is now 3 months. Given that I teach college full-time, I lose large amounts of time with her as it is. I have decided that is in the best interests of my children and my family to focus on being a mommy this summer.

Aviva has bought an RV and will be traveling and spending time with family and friends for the summer. Many of you know Aviva, and I am sure that you find this as amusing as I do. I just laughed when she told me she is hitting the road for a while this summer. I wish her happiness and good finds on low gas prices.

We have also had several teachers who are pursuing other ventures this summer. Kati, the pre-k teacher, is finishing her master's degree. I for one am in total support of this although my son will miss her dearly.

Please know that this was not a decision that was easily made. I have taught some of your children since they were in the 1st grade and I will miss them. It was the children that was pushing me to make it work this summer but after a few situations where I was forced to realize that I was trying to do too much, I decided to slow down and enjoy my children.

Do understand that we fully intend to keep working on this. I am still in the process of getting the non-profit status completed which is a job in itself. To keep in touch with the community and you, Aviva, Melanie and I are going to do weekend workshops from the studio on Blix St. in  Toluca Lake. I will be e-mailing you to let you know what we have planned and we hope to see you all there at some point this summer. We are even planning on doing some adult workshops.

We truly appreciate your support with this decision and our endeavors in the past. We hope you have a wonderful summer and keep in mind we will be in touch about the weekend workshops.

Love to you and your families,

Gretchen
